Sculptra

Have you been thinking about refreshing your appearance and restoring youthful facial volume? Sculptra® in Albuquerque, NM is one of the most sought-after treatments clients travel to Lea Henderson Aesthetics for. Unlike traditional fillers, Sculptra® works gradually by stimulating your skin’s own collagen production, helping improve structure, smoothness, and fullness over time. Most patients benefit from a series of about three treatments spaced six weeks apart. While some improvement can be seen early on, the most noticeable results typically develop around six months after treatment as collagen rebuilds from within. Sculptra® is an excellent option for softening hollow cheeks, improving facial contours, and creating a naturally refreshed look.
FAQ
-
Sculptra is an injectable treatment made with poly-L-lactic acid, a biostimulator that encourages your skin to produce new collagen. Instead of instantly filling lines, it gradually restores lost volume and structure from within. Over several months, the collagen your body creates helps smooth wrinkles, lift hollow areas, and improve overall facial firmness for results that look natural and age gracefully.
-
Sculptra is commonly used to address hollow cheeks, temples, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and general facial volume loss. It can also help subtly improve overall contours and skin quality. While it is not meant for use in the lips or under the eyes, it pairs well with other treatments that target those areas. Your provider will recommend the safest and most effective placement based on your goals.
-
Most patients need a series of two to three sessions spaced about six weeks apart, although the exact plan depends on your level of volume loss and desired results. Each treatment gradually builds collagen, so improvements develop layer by layer. Your provider will review your progress after each session and adjust as needed to help you achieve natural-looking fullness without over-correcting.
-
Because Sculptra stimulates your own collagen production, results typically last much longer than traditional fillers. Many patients enjoy benefits for up to two years or more, depending on their metabolism, skin health, and lifestyle. Maintenance sessions may be recommended over time to help preserve volume and structure. The gradual nature of Sculptra means your results continue to look soft and authentic as they evolve.
-
You may notice some immediate fullness right after treatment due to temporary swelling and the water in the product, but this fades within days. True results develop slowly as collagen forms. Most patients start seeing subtle changes around six to eight weeks, with full improvement appearing over several months. This gradual transformation helps ensure the outcome looks natural rather than “done.”
-
Sculptra has been FDA-approved for facial volume restoration for many years and has a strong safety profile when administered by an experienced professional. As with any injectable, there are potential risks including bruising, swelling, tenderness, or small nodules that may form under the skin. Choosing a trained provider who understands facial anatomy and proper injection techniques greatly reduces complications and helps ensure predictable results.
-
Most patients find Sculptra treatments very tolerable. A topical numbing cream and lidocaine mixed into the product help minimize discomfort during injections. You may feel brief pressure or a mild stinging sensation, but it typically passes quickly. Some tenderness or swelling afterward is normal and usually resolves within a few days. Your provider may recommend icing and avoiding strenuous activity immediately after treatment.
-
Downtime is minimal. You can return to most normal activities right away, though mild swelling, redness, or bruising may occur for a few days. Gentle massage is often recommended for several days following treatment to help distribute the product evenly. Avoid excessive heat, strenuous exercise, and alcohol for 24 hours. Your provider will give you specific aftercare instructions tailored to your treatment plan.
-
Yes. Sculptra is frequently combined with hyaluronic acid fillers, neurotoxins, microneedling, lasers, or other skincare treatments to address multiple signs of aging. Since Sculptra focuses on rebuilding structure and volume, other services can enhance texture, tone, and dynamic wrinkles. Your provider will design a customized plan and sequence treatments safely to maximize results while maintaining a natural look.

Ideal candidates are adults experiencing gradual facial volume loss, hollow areas, or sagging who want subtle, long-lasting rejuvenation. It’s especially beneficial for people who prefer gradual results instead of dramatic instant changes. Sculptra may not be suitable for individuals with certain autoimmune conditions, active infections, or a history of severe scarring. A consultation ensures your medical history and goals align with the treatment.
Post-Treatment Instructions
Asymmetry is not uncommon immediately following treatment. This should resolve itself in the coming weeks.
Apply an ice pack to the treated area intermittently for the first 24 hours (10 minutes on, 10 minutes off) after treatment to minimize swelling. Use a plastic ziplock bag wrapped in a paper towel or damp hand towel. The ice should not come into direct contact with your skin.
For the first 5 days, massage the treated area 5x a day for 5 minutes each time.
Avoid sun or UV lamp exposure for the first few days until the swelling and redness have resolved.
Avoid Aspirin, NSAIDs, and alcohol for the first few days after treatment.
Tylenol may be used for pain.
Sculptra® may cause redness, swelling, or bruising when first injected. A hematoma may also occur, typically resolving in hours to about 2 weeks.
After Sculptra® injections, you may experience small bumps, or papules, on the skin.
Please report any uncomfortable or alarming side effects post-treatment. PH: (505) 716-4016
