The Rundown on Botox

Life gets better with age… You get more experience from years than from books… Age is just a number…

Countless bits of wisdom tells us that getting older isn’t a bad thing. But one harsh reality of aging is that our skin just doesn’t seem to look as beautiful as it used to. Volume is lost, wrinkles and fine lines start to make their appearance, and dark spots and other discolorations grow more prominent with every passing year.

The good news is that there are aesthetic treatments that can help combat signs of aging, and there’s a reason Botox is the most popular among them.

Here’s the rundown on Botox and how it can help finally get back that youthful overall appearance.

What is Botox?

Wrinkles and fine lines form after years of smiling, frowning, and making any other facial expression that forms creases on the face. Since we also lose collagen and elastin in our skin as we age, our skin will eventually stop bouncing back from the creasing and deep wrinkles will form.

A minimally invasive, non-surgical injectable treatment, Botox is a neurotoxin that eliminates wrinkles at the source of the problem. It works by relaxing the muscles in the face that are causing those repeated creases. The result is smoother skin and less noticeable fine lines and wrinkles – with no incisions and no anesthesia.

Where can Botox be Injected?

Botox is certainly effective at minimizing evidence of aging and achieving a more youthful appearance. But which areas of the face can benefit the most from Botox injections? Which areas have seen the most successful results with the aesthetic treatment?

Forehead Botox

Forehead Botox addresses an incredibly common issue that many patients experience: Forehead creases. The muscle on the forehead is used often… Almost every facial expression uses the brows. For those who have deep creases on their foreheads or those who are starting to see those lines become permanent, Botox injections can help by relaxing the forehead muscle and eliminating the creases. Between the eyebrows is another area that wrinkles start to form as we age, and they’re often referred to as “forehead frown lines.” Botox can also relax the muscle causing forehead frown lines and keep you from looking perpetually “angry.”

Sagging Eyebrows

As we get older, our eyebrows seem to start drooping down a bit. This is due to volume loss as well as weakened muscles that can no longer hold the eyebrow up adequately. Botox injections can be placed strategically into a forehead muscle to relax it and lift the eyebrow without going under the knife for a full brow lift surgery.

Around the Eyes

They say the eyes are the window to the soul, so it can be disappointing when crow’s feet wrinkles start to make an appearance. As time goes on, those lines around the eyes that form when you smile even start to become permanent. The good news is that Botox can be injected into the muscles surrounding the eyes so that they relax and fail to form those lines.

Botox Around the Mouth

Two of the most common wrinkles that appear around the mouth are ones that are referred to as “smoker lips” and “laugh lines.” Smoker lips lines appear above the upper lip and create the appearance of pursed lips. Laugh lines appear on the side of the lips when you smile. Both of these types of wrinkles can start to become more visible and even permanent as time goes on. Botox can be injected into specific muscles around the mouth to relax those muscles and smooth out wrinkles around the lips that reveal one’s age.

How Many weeks does it take for botox to settle?

The effects of Botox aren’t seen immediately after treatment, but it doesn’t take weeks for results to be seen. In as little as a few days, patients start to see the treated muscle weaken and fine lines start to diminish.

How Long does Botox Last?

How long the effects of your Botox injections will last depends on a few factors. How quickly a patient’s body metabolizes, which area is being treated, and the amount of Botox used in the treated area all impact how long you’ll be able to enjoy the results of Botox treatment. Overall, the treatment typically lasts between three and four months before it needs to be repeated.
