How To Get the Perfect Jawline With Botox

The jaw is a super prominent feature of the face. It draws attention when you’re speaking, eating, laughing, or even just resting your facial muscles. That’s why a lot of people – both men and women – aren’t completely satisfied with their natural jawline.

Wish your jawline looked a bit more defined? Maybe you want a more sculpted jaw or perhaps one that’s a bit less pronounced…

Would you believe it if we told you that neurotoxins like Botox and Dysport could be the answer you’re looking for?

This is how toxins can improve jawlines in both men and women!

Common Jaw Complaints

A well-defined jaw is a feature that’s attractive and appealing in both men and women, but not everyone is blessed with the naturally chiseled jawline that people on magazine covers have. Age also plays a key role in diminishing jawlines. The sculpted features of our youth are slowly chiseled away with time as the jaw muscle becomes weaker and less pronounced while the skin around the jaw loses elasticity and starts to sag.

Here are a few common complaints I see when it comes to jawlines:

  • An under-defined jawline does little to separate the face from the neck, lending to the dreaded double-chin

  • A softer jawline in men creates a more “feminine” look overall

  • A strongly defined, square-shaped jawline in women is seen as too “masculine”.

If your jawline, or lack of jawline, is a sore spot on your confidence, Botox and other neuromodulators are here to help.

How do Toxins Work?

Neuromodulators like Botox and Dysport contain an active ingredient called Botulinum toxin. This ingredient effectively paralyzes facial muscles, which contributes to smoothing out and preventing wrinkles that are caused by overactive muscles. This is the benefit that toxins are most well-known for, but Botox and other toxins have cosmetic uses that aren’t related to wrinkles. Toxins can also be used to “weaken” the jaw, reducing the size of the muscle. When this muscle is weakened, the shape of the face can change, allowing us to achieve a more feminine, symmetrical, or defined jawline. It is not uncommon for toxins and fillers to be used together as we sculpt and shape the jawline to your liking.

Botox can create a more chiseled jawline

Your neck plays a key role in the definition of your jawline. With age, neck muscles tend to tug on the skin of the jawline, causing it to sag and become less defined over time. Smoothing and tightening the neck can take years off your appearance on its own (see my blog on the Nefertiti Neck Lift for more info) and a few quick toxin injections in the neck muscles can make a big difference for your jawline.

The trick is in relaxing tense neck muscles and giving the skin surrounding your jaw a much-needed break from the constant downward pull. Skin is able to bounce back for a noticeable lift and improved definition.

How Dermal Fillers can further sculpt the jawline

Dermal fillers are often made with Hyaluronic acid and are injected into the dermis to fill out areas that have lost volume due to age or simple genetics (lip fillers, anyone?). When it comes to the jawline, fillers can be used to create crisp, chiseled angles in just the right places for a sculpted, more masculine, or symmetrical, jawline overall.

Masseter Botox can soften jawlines

While Botox in the neck muscles can add more definition to the jaw, toxins injected into the masseter muscle create a softer appearance. The masseter muscle is the one that is responsible for our chewing and you can feel it when you clench your teeth together. Neurotoxins injected into the masseter muscle make it weaker, which makes the area appear slimmer and sleeker. This injection method effectively gives square-shaped lower faces a more feminine, heart-shaped appearance.

How long will toxin results last in the jawline?

One downfall of injectables is that they are not permanent. The length of time your results will last depends on a variety of factors, the biggest being how fast your body will metabolize the injected ingredients. Jawline toxin results can be fully seen within a few weeks and have been known to last as long as 6 months in many patients before repeated treatments are needed.
